Brief introduction of engine:
The body is the skeleton of the engine, and is the installation basis for the various mechanisms and systems of the engine. All the main parts and accessories of the engine are installed inside and outside, which bear various loads. Therefore, the body must have sufficient strength and rigidity. The block group is mainly composed of cylinder block, cylinder liner, cylinder head and cylinder head gasket.
The cylinder block and the upper crankcase of a water-cooled engine are often cast as a whole, called the cylinder block-the crankcase, which can also be called the cylinder block. The cylinder block is generally made of gray cast iron. The cylindrical cavity on the upper part of the cylinder block is called the cylinder, and the lower half is the crankcase supporting the crankshaft, and the inner cavity is the space for the crankshaft to move. There are many reinforcing ribs, cooling water jackets and lubricating oil channels cast inside the cylinder block.
The cylinder block should have sufficient strength and rigidity. According to the different positions of the installation plane of the cylinder block and the oil pan, the cylinder block is usually divided into the following three forms.
1. General cylinder block: Its characteristic is that the installation plane of the oil pan and the rotation center of the crankshaft are at the same height. This cylinder block has the advantages of small height, light weight, compact structure, easy processing, and convenient disassembly and assembly of the crankshaft; but its disadvantage is that the rigidity and strength are poor.
2. Gantry cylinder block: Its characteristic is that the installation plane of the oil pan is lower than the rotation center of the crankshaft. Its advantages are good strength and rigidity, and it can withstand greater mechanical loads; but its disadvantages are poor manufacturability, bulky structure and difficult processing.
3. Tunnel type cylinder block: The main bearing hole of the crankshaft of this type of cylinder block is integral, using rolling bearings, the main bearing hole is larger, and the crankshaft is installed from the rear of the cylinder block. Its advantages are compact structure, good rigidity and strength, but its disadvantages are high machining accuracy requirements, poor manufacturability, and inconvenient disassembly and assembly of the crankshaft.
In order to allow the inner surface of the cylinder to work normally at high temperatures, the cylinder and cylinder head must be properly cooled. There are two cooling methods, one is water cooling and the other is air cooling. Cooling water jackets are processed around the cylinders and cylinder heads of water-cooled engines, and the cooling water jackets of the cylinder block and the cylinder head communicate with each other. The cooling water circulates in the water jacket continuously to take away some heat and cool the cylinder and cylinder head.
